Ways to Help |
How long will I be fostering for?
Fostering can range from a few days to a few weeks/months until a home is found. If you can no longer foster, we can provide arrangements to have the dog sent to another foster home.
How much does fostering cost?
Fostering is free. Many fosters provide their own food, toys, and supplies as a tax deductible donation, however, pre-approved food and supplies can be provided.
How does the transport program work?
All of our dogs are rescued from OKC shelters. Once fosters are available on the East Coast, they are transported by Dog Runner, Inc. on a monthly basis. We will inform you of the date in which your foster will arrive. Transports are always on a Saturday morning at the Vince Lombardi Service area in Ridgefield, NJ.
What if my foster doesn’t get along with my dogs/cats/kids?
Although, we make every attempt to place fosters in the most appropriate home, occasionally someanimals do not get along (just like humans!). If your foster does not get along with a member of yourfamily, please call Jess Householder, our Foster Coordinator or Leah Rose immediately. We ask that you place the foster in a crate or separate room until we are able to move the foster to another home.
Where should I take my foster if there’s an emergency?
First, you must contact Jess Householder or Leah Rose to advise of an emergency. If you’ve made anattempt and there is no response, bring the dog immediately to your local vet. FWFP is not responsible for routine vet visits unless pre-approved.
What if I’m going on vacation?
We ask that you advise the foster coordinator before you arrange for your foster so that we may have a back up foster while you’re on vacation.
Where do potential adopters meet my foster?
When a potential adopter is interested we set up a meet and greet. Fosters are asked to meet with potential adopters at a convenient meeting location.
Can my foster sleepover at a friend’s?
No, not unless you’ve been given permission by our foster coordinators or Leah Rose.
What do I do if someone wants to adopt my foster?
Ask that they complete an application which can be found under the adoption process page on this website. Please notify the adoption coordinators so that we may look for their application.
How can I help my foster get adopted?
We ask that you email cute photos to us so that the dog can be displayed on social media sites. We also suggest bringing your dogs to parks, pet stores, and other pet friendly areas with an "Adopt Me" vest. Remember, a trained dog is more likely to get adopted. It’s important to work on basic commands while fostering. Training material is available.
What if I decide I want to adopt my foster?
It’s normal to fall in love with each foster, and while our foster homes are vital for us to rescue and place future dogs, you have the option to apply to adopt once we are informed of your decision. All fosters must go through the adoption process and pay adoption fee.
How can I support FWFP if I can’t foster?
We are always accepting donations which help our rescue effort running. We are always seeking volunteers to assist with local transports, sew adopt me vests, post flyers, organize a supply drive at a local school or church, assist with adoption events, and anything you feel that would be helpful!
